GAY J. JOHNSON, 47, died of metastasized breast cancer at home in Silverlake on February 20, 2000. Born July 27, 1952 in Houston, Texas. Graduate of Bellaire High School and Southwest Texas State where she was an All-American volleyball player. Played in the Pan-Am Games and on many AAU teams in Texas and California, where she settled in 1975. Taught at Fremont High School, then LACC as a PE Instructor and VB Coach. MA Cal State Long Beach. She became an art instructor at LACC. MFA at Cal State LA. Gay was loved and admired by her students, colleagues and friends. Survived by her partner, Marie Wright.
